Architecture Design of Self Build Home

Terrace End House, Hackney

Because of the immediate locality of Terrace End House, we completed considerable site and historical context research. This approach gave us the permeameters to create a design which met the needs of the client, local area, and planners. We have thoroughly enjoyed working closely with the client to implement their design ideas.

The existing row of Georgian terrace houses seen to the left of the sketch below have influenced the form and detail of the finished design. The window and door heights have been mirrored along with the stone detailing at the sill and cornice level.

We wanted to deliberately imitate to form and symmetry of the surrounding buildings but strip back the vernacular sympathetically, this can be seen where we have reduced the level of moulding detail and taken away the window glazing bars. Therefore, the building stands out with its modern approach whilst politely acknowledging what came before.
